Child Care (Orphanage Program)
Eating, sleeping and breathing orphanage life...
Working in a children’s orphanage ensures that no two days are ever alike. Your daily tasks will ultimately involve supporting the children and full time staff members - this may include days where you focus on teaching English, or days spent teaching the children about personal hygiene, accompanying them to the hospital, or out on day trips. Other times you may just want to pick up a paintbrush and do some maintenance and repairs around the orphanage.
Please Note: children always want to enjoy themselves so we strongly recommend that you learn and equip with some fun children's games or nursery rhymes.
Teaching English in Government School
Teach and work with children aged roughly between 6 – 16 yrs old, and whilst your main responsibilities will be to teach them English you will soon discover that there is a fair amount of flexibility in this teaching programme. In addition to your formal teaching duties, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with other activities at the school and in community life in general; you could for example run your own projects – a story writing club, putting on a play, or start recycling centres or sports clubs. The more involved you get, the more memorable your experience will be and all volunteers are encouraged to play an active role at their project.
Please Note: We encourage participants to be flexible and equipped to teach songs, games, rhymes, dance, craft this will aid your class and promote increased vocabulary among the students regardless of their initial ability. bringing books, colored pen, pencils are also be of help as government school don't have enough school supplies materials.

Teaching English in Monastery
Throughout Kathmandu there are several monasteries housing hundreds of Tibetan children and adults who attend the monasteries and undertake educational training in Buddhism. Being able to speak and read English is a skill that can dramatically change the course of a Buddhist monk’s life, and this Teaching Assistant programme is designed to help Tibetan kids and adults learn how to explore more scriptures written in English and to circulate the practice of Buddhist teachings to the whole world.
You will be volunteering in a monastery where you will add an extra dimension to the teaching curriculum that occurs at the monasteries.
Your main duties at the monastery will be to teach English and occasionally supervise extra-curricular activities and sports classes. Ability levels in each class may vary and the children's ages can range from 5 to 20 years old! - so there is plenty of scope in the type of classes you will be teaching. You will be responsible for planning your own English lessons, organising games, conducting workshops and other creative activities.
